book of firsts

i guess i've done lots of things for the first time this semester. but some things i find more comical, or perhaps surprising than others. regardless ... i learned at camp that trying new things is something to be celebrated. so, lets celebrate some of my Firsts in Mexico, shall we ?!

- making 'chinese' fried rice for others [i love my spanish class]
- making a budget, and actually budgeting [okay, well this is a First in life really]
- eating at a korean restaurant [i still need to go to the korean supermarket]
- celebrating someone's "airplane day" - when they arrived to their adoptive family ... on the airplane [apparently this is pretty normal/standard for adopted kiddos]
- working out [lets hope this continues]
- not knowing where i was, by myself, at night [this only happened once. and it was quickly resolved.]
- visiting a church by myself, where i knew no one [and now, i love this church. yay!]
- realizing i've somehow become allergic to eggplants [RAWR. this saddens me]
- getting slightly compressed between the doors of the metro [yah. i was not pleased.]
- try lots of [mexican style ... not US style] foods: quesadillas, tamales, fried plaintains, chilaquiles, molletes, mole, horchata, paletas, wet tacos ...
- having someone visit me [i miss my moobee]
- making "nachos" [which were QUITE tasty, thank you very much]
- actually tolerating the taste of beer [yay for Leon]
- discovering how cheap & satisfying grapefruits are [i think i'm gonna have at least 1/day for the rest of my time here]
- buying something on public transportation [typically i ignore them ... but man, sometimes they have useful/adorable stuff]
- talking to my doorman [he's actually quite nice. i don't typically like to talk to strangers ... but i guess he's not really a stranger]
- listen to the Palestinian ambassador talk about the arab-israeli conflict [totally made me think of prof kliemann]
- reading, and mostly understanding, a book written in Spanish ["las batallas en el desierto"]
- getting scolded to stop talking in class [puahaha. i don't think that has happened since ... ever?!]
- realizing that indeed when mexicans talk about a "limon" [which literally translated is a LEMON], they REALLY mean a "lima" [a LIME]. chweeshers. way to confuzzle me.
- glaring back at a guy that was staring at me in the metro [that was a rather poor decision. but i couldn't help myself. it was after a long day of ppl staring/cat-calling at me & eubee ... and he turned around to look at us SO many times that it seemed his head might just swivel off his neck]
- malaysian food. it was actually pretty good ... but i think in general i'm more of a thai food person. [ugh, the thai tea at this restaurant was absolutely TERRIBLE. it was like they completely forgot to add sugar]

okay. that wasn't very cohesive, complete, or captivating ... but my head feels a little lighter. yay.

hmm. lol, it's "david-from-brown-david," not "david-the-question-is-yes-david." that makes more sense....

glad no one is going around shattering my world-view of which david's actually read and responding to this
